About Portugal Day Newark & The Committe
The Portugal Day Festival in Newark, New Jersey is a street festival celebrating the Portuguese people, language, and and culture. First organized in 1979 by the Bernardino Coutinho Foundation. Various events occur the week prior, the actual street festival. The festival typically takes place on the weekend closest to June 10, the official Portugal Day. As of 2015 the festival has been ran by its official Portugal Day Newark Committee a 501c (3) non-profit organization. The festival is known to attract thousands event goers to Ferry Street in the Ironbound.
